Nicole Nichols’ client was charged with theft for taking multiple items from a Wal-Mart. A secret shopper followed her around the store and she was arrested after exiting which eventually resulted in the city prosecutor charging Nicole’s client with misdemeanor theft.
Once Nicole got involved in the case, she investigated the facts, showed the prosecutor that her client has no prior record, was remorseful for his actions, and put together a packet of information about her schooling, letters in support, and a letter from her client.
Based upon all of this information, the prosecutor agreed to continue the matter for dismissal—meaning that the charges against Nicole’s client will be dismissed as long as she is able to stay out of trouble for one year. Once the charges are dismissed, Nicole’s client will also be able to have the record expunged (or sealed) so that nobody will be able to see that the client was charged with this offense.
