Mike Brandt’s client was charged with felony Second Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and First Degree Damage to Property in Anoka County. Based on these charges, Mike’s client faced a mandatory prison sentence of three years. In preparing the case, Mike did a significant investigation and pointed out several inconsistencies in the stories of the witnesses that cast doubt on whether his client ever had a weapon during the melee or knew the co-defendant would use a firearm. Mike also raised a claim of self-defense.
Mike was able to convince the prosecutor to dismiss the Second Degree Assault charge and instead offer his client a guilty plea to First Degree Damage to Property. Instead of prison, Mike’s client received 5 years of probation with absolutely no jail time.
