Nicole’s client was facing a felony theft charge after being accused of swindling money from his previous employer in Hennepin County. Because the theft was from his employer, her client was not eligible for the diversion program in Hennepin County. Nicole and her client worked together to show that her client deserved a second chance. Eventually, with persistence and strong negotiation Nicole was able to convince the prosecutor to allowed her client into diversion. This meant that instead of going to jail Nicole’s client attended a diversion program based around therapy and community service. If he successfully completes the program, not only will he avoid a felony, but he will not have a conviction for anything on his record and he will be eligible to apply for an expungement after one year.
