Mike Brandt’s client was acquitted of felony charges of solicitation of a child to engage in sexual conduct in Hennepin County. Mike’s client was accused of asking a 13-year-old girl if he could perform oral sex on her. In preparation for the trial, Mike interviewed various witnesses involved in the case, looked into the background of the complainant, and eventually had a trial in front of the jury.
Before the start of the trial the state offered to reduce the charge to disorderly conduct. Even that charge would have required Mike’s client to register as a predatory offender and would’ have caused numerous problems for employment.
Mike argued to the jury that the complainant misunderstood what his client had said to her as she had just woken up from a deep sleep. After deliberating for approximately 3 hours, the 12 person jury found Mike’s client not guilty.
