Mike Brandt’s client was charged with Fleeing a Police Officer on Foot and Underage Consumption stemming from an incident near the University of Minnesota. Mike’s client was attending the University Minnesota on an athletic scholarship and a conviction for either of these charges could have jeopardized his scholarship.
Mike spent a lot of time working with his client and had his client proactively attend an alcohol education class. He also provided the prosecutor with numerous letters of recommendation showing that this type of behavior was out of character for Mike’s client. While the prosecutor was unwilling to negotiate in the beginning, Mike finally convinced the prosecutor that the “right thing to do” was to avoid a conviction. Based on this information the prosecutor agreed to continue the matter for dismissal. This means that the charges against Mike’s client will be dismissed after one year as long as Mike’s client perform some community work service and stays out of trouble.
