Mike Brandt’s client was charged with Domestic Assault from an incident occurring in Columbia Heights, Anoka County. The charge stemmed from a dispute between Mike’s client and her significant other. The facts of the case were somewhat troubling in that the alleged victim claimed that Mike’s client hit her in the head with a beer bottle, approached her with a firearm, and engaged in conduct that could have a very detrimental impact on his client’s future.
In preparation of the case, Mike spoke with numerous people who attested to his client’s good character and who also spoke about some of the issues with the alleged victim. Mike also had his client start some counseling to show the prosecutor that she took the matter seriously. Notwithstanding the difficult facts of the case, Mike was able to convince the prosecutor that his client deserved a break and the prosecutor agreed to continue the matter for dismissal. That means that the charges against Mike’s client will be dismissed in one year as long as she does not incur any new offenses.
