Mike Brandt’s client was charged with Domestic Assault for an altercation that occurred with his wife in Stearns County on January 14, 2018. He was accused of grabbing his wife in a forceful manner, leaving marks on her arm, and effectively throwing her off of the bed. Because of the allegations, Mike’s client was arrested and charged with counts of Domestic Assault.
In preparing the case, Mike contacted the alleged victim and clarified statements that she had given to the police when the incident occurred. Mike also provided the prosecutor with information regarding his client’s personal situation, the devastating impact any conviction on his record would have on his client’s professional career, and ended up negotiating the reduced charge of Disorderly Conduct. Mike’s client was placed on probation for one year with the condition that he complete some counseling. This result saved Mike’s client from any sort of conviction for an assault and the collateral consequences that would come with such a conviction.
