Criminal Vehicular Homicide Information & Guides
All penalties listed below are the maximum penalty that can be imposed under Minnesota Law unless otherwise specified.
In the illegal conduct caused:
- Death of a human being: Felony: 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
- Great bodily harm: Felony: 5 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
- Substantial Bodily Harm: Felony: 3 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
- Bodily Harm: Gross Misdemeanor: 1 year in prison and/or a $3,000 fine.
Motor vehicle: a self-propelled device for moving persons or property or pulling implements from one place to another, whether the device is operated on land, rails, water, or in the air.
Controlled substance: a drug, substance, or immediate precursor in Schedules I through V. The term shall not include distilled spirits, wine, malt beverages, intoxicating liquors or tobacco.
Hazardous substance: any chemical or chemical compound that is listed as a hazardous substance in rules adopted under chapter 182.
